How to make Maraschino Cherries {Alcohol and Refined Sugar Free}

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh cherries
  • ½ cup tart cherry juice
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup coconut sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

  • Clean and pit the cherries (leaving the stems on some of the cherries if desired) and set them aside.
  • Add the cherry juice, water, lemon juice, coconut sugar, and cinnamon to a saucepot and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce to a low simmer, allowing it to reduce for 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the cherries to the pot and stir, allowing to simmer for a few minutes to lightly soften the cherries. They should be lightly softened but still, hold their shape.
  • Remove from the heat and allow to fully cool before adding to a glass jar. Chill in the fridge before serving over ice cream or with cocktails. Keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.
