Why you’ll love these Air Fryer Chicken Patties
I’m always looking for more easy protein options to add to my dinner rotation that are made with chicken! Plain old chicken breast is just boring, and ground chicken recipes can be dry. These air fryer chicken patties are the ultimate simple dinner! Here’s why you’ll love them…
- They’re not dry. Chicken dishes can often be dry, but these patties are moist and tender.
- Gluten-free and zero breading. Most crispy chicken recipes you’ll find will have a breading or flour coating. Not this one! This is a gluten-free and lower-carb option, made with almond flour and coconut flour.
- Fast and easy! By using the air fryer, these chicken patties require minimal active cooking time. The air fryer keeps them perfectly crisp, and the only real work you’ll have to do is mix and form the patties.

See the recipe card below for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Ingredient | What it does | Potential swap |
Ground chicken | The main ingredient in the chicken patties! | Ground turkey |
Egg | This is a binder that adds extra moisture to the patties | Though I haven’t tried it, you can try a flax egg! |
Almond flour | This adds some crisp to the patties and helps bind them further. | Though I haven’t tried it, you can try pork panko. |
Coconut flour | This absorbs some of the excess moisture | Oat flour |
Coconut aminos | Adds umani flavor depth | Liquid aminos |
Pickle juice | This adds a hint of acid | Apple cider vinegar |

Ingredients
- 1 lb ground chicken, sub ground turkey
- 1 egg, whisked
- ¼ cup almond flour
- 1-3 tsp coconut flour, see notes
- 1 tsp coconut aminos
- 1 tsp pickle juice, sub apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp garlic puree
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp dried parsley
- Salt and pepper
- Avocado oil spray, reserve for the air fryer
Equipment
Instructions
- Add the ingredients to a bowl and mix until well combined. See notes about coconut flour if the mixture feels to moist.
- Transfer to the fridge for 30 minutes to allow the flour to absorb some of the excess moisture.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375 F. Using a lightly greased vented parchment liner, form 4 chicken patties and place onto the parchment liner. Once the air fryer is preheated, carefully drop the parchment liner into the air fryer. Lightly spray the top of the chicken patties with a coconut oil or avocado oil spray.
- Cook the patties for 8-9 minutes on one side. Carefully flip and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until cooked through to 165 F, and the exterior is crisped to your liking!
- Allow the chicken patties to rest for 5 minutes before serving with toppings of your choice, and sides like sweet potato fries!
Notes
Michelle’s Tips & Tricks
- Modify the coconut flour depending on the moisture of the chicken mixture. The amount of coconut flour you use will vary depending on whether or not you’re using fresh ground chicken or frozen. For fresh ground chicken, I use 1 tsp. For frozen, I use at least 1 tbsp. The coconut flour absorbs excess moisture, so if you find yourself with more of a moist mixture (either due to the fresh/frozen chicken or a large egg) that doesn’t easily mold into patties, add an extra tsp of coconut flour at a time until the mixture holds into patties more easily!
- Don’t skip the chill time in the fridge or rest time! This will ensure the patties hold together well.
“Why are my patties falling apart?”
- The mixture is too moist. This can happen for two reasons… the chicken itself is too moist after being frozen, or your egg is too big. Add 1 tsp of coconut flour at a time if you find that your mixture is too wet to be formed into patties.
- There was no chill time. You have to chill the patties 30 minutes to let the mixture set!
- There was no rest time. Let the patties rest for at least 5 minutes when removing from the air fryer.
- They were flipped too early. You want the patties to start to form a crisp before you flip them!
Recipe FAQS
Yes! I recommend freezing the fully cooked chicken patties. You can freeze them for 1-2 months.
You can either bake them or pan-fry them. I recommend baking them at 400°F for about 20 minutes, checking for the internal temperature of 165°F before removing them from the oven.
Yes, that will easily work!
