Have you heard of the ninja creami?! It’s an ice cream maker that makes dairy-free ice cream, sorbet, milkshakes and more. Since getting my ninja creami, I’ve loved making unique recipes like my ninja creami mango sorbet and my ninja creami shirely temple sorbet. Protein ice cream is a very popular recipe concept to make with the ninja creami, and I decided it was time for me to share my own version with a holiday twist!

This ninja creami peppermint protein ice cream is the protein boosted holiday sweet treat that you didn’t know you needed, but now you won’t be able to live without.

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • It comes with a boost of protein. Using chocolate protein powder makes this delicious treat filled with protein.
  • Peppermint mocha heaven! This recipe is the perfect balance of chocolate and peppermint flavor.

Substitutions & Modifications

  • Honey. You can swap the maple syrup for honey or even agave.
  • Coffee or cold brew. I like adding a splash of cold brew when blending the creami, but you can leave this out and just add more dairy free milk if you’re sharing this with kids or want it to be caffeine free.
  • Peppermint extract. If you don’t have the peppermint mocha creamer on hand, you can add a small splash of peppermint extract. Taste as you go and add more as needed.
  • Dairy-free milk. Though I’ve only tested this recipe with almond milk, you should also be able to use coconut, cashew or oat milk.

How to make Peppermint Protein Ninja Creami Ice Cream

Here are the simple steps, with photos, to make this recipe. Find full instructions in the recipe card.

Step one. Add all the ingredients in the ninja creami container.

Step two. Blend the ingredients and then freeze.

Step three. Once fully frozen, spin on the lite ice cream setting once.

Step four. Remove the lid and make a well in the center of the creami. Add a splash of liquid and spin again on the respin setting.

Step five. Add the crushed candy canes and spin on the mix-in setting.

Step two. Serve fresh by scooping into a bowl, adding more candy cane pieces of top if desired.

Tips & Tricks

  • Let your creami sit outside of the freezer for a few minutes. This will keep it from being too icy. You can also run it under hot water for a few seconds if you’re short on time.
  • Spin and respin! I find the sweet spot is one full spin, and two respins, but you can add an extra respin if needed.
  • Make sure the creami freezes flat and not above the fill line. You’ll see this warning a lot with this appliance because if the mixture freezes at an angle, it can damage the blade. You want everything flat and not above the fill line!
  • Add extra toppings. Shaved chocolate and sprinkles would be great additions!

Recipe FAQS

Can you make a ninja creami without pudding mix?

Pudding mix is the favored strategy for thickening and sweetening protein ninja creami recipes. However, most pudding mix has corn starch, and I’m corn-free, so I had to find an alternative. I’ve found that collagen gives your ninja creami some added thickness!

Can you make this peppermint mocha ice cream without a ninja creami?

This recipe is formulated precisely for a ninja creami, so I recommend find a different recipe to use with an ice cream maker.

Instructions

  1. Add almond milk, creamer, maple syrup, protein powder, collagen and vanilla extra to the ninja creami container. Use an immersion blender or hand frother to combine until fully liquid and combined. If your creami is frothy, allow to sit for a few minutes to allow the froth to settle. Make sure your creami does not pass the fill line. Place the lid on the container and freeze for 24 hours.
  2. Once fully frozen, ensure that the mixture is flat and not off-center, as this will damage the blade. Place the frozen cup inside the outer bowl and lock the lid on top. Spin on the lite ice cream setting once.
  3. Remove the lid and make a well in the center of the creami. Add a splash of cold brew (or almond milk) and spin again on the respin setting. You’ll spin 2-3 times total, adding a splash of liquid as needed until the ice cream is creamy to your liking!
  4. Remove the lid and add the crushed candy canes. Spin on the mix-in setting.
  5. Serve fresh by scooping into a bowl, adding more candy cane pieces of top if desired. If you have leftovers, level off the top and freeze again. Respin when you’re ready to enjoy the rest!
