These homemade peppermint patties taste like the real deal, but are made with zero refined sugar! They’re easy to make and delicious!
What are peppermint patties?
Peppermint patties are one of my favorite candies! They have a sugary, sweet, and peppermint-flavored center and are coated with dark chocolate. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to make my own version, but I’m so glad I did! This paleo version tastes just like the real thing, but with wholesome ingredients.
The Ingredients to make Paleo Peppermint Patties
- Coconut butter and coconut oil. The coconut butter is the main ingredient for the center of the peppermint patties. I like using Artisana coconut butter.
- Dairy-free chocolate. I love using Hu Kitchen gems! You can use my partner code UNBOUND for a discount 🙂
- Peppermint extract.
- Honey. You can also use maple syrup to keep this plant-based!
The tools for making homemade peppermint patties.
- Silicone mold. To get the right shape and size, I actually use this mold that my friends at Souper Cubes sent me a while back! It works perfectly, but you can use other shapes as needed.
How to make Homemade Peppermint Patties
- Combine the filling mixture and add to the mold. Set the mold in the fridge until solid.
- Coat in chocolate. Carefully remove the coconut butter disks from the mold. Using a fork, dip a peppermint disk into the chocolate and rotate to fully coat. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off and set the peppermint candy onto the plate. Repeat with all of the peppermint disks.
- Chill and enjoy!
Tips & Tricks for homemade peppermint patties
- Make them your own! Add extras like sprinkles on top or shredded coconut for a bit more flair and texture.
- Don’t leave them out. These will melt if you leave them out, so make sure to keep them in the fridge!
What if you don’t have the right mold?
If you don’t have a mold exactly like the one I pictured here, any silicone mold will still work! I do suggest silicone as that is easier to work with, but if you don’t have anything silicone, a muffin tin will also work in a pinch. I suggest using a muffin liner if you go with a muffin tin.
Storage Instructions
Store in the fridge for 3-4 days, or store in the freezer for up to a month. Just make sure they’re chilled rather than frozen when you decide to enjoy them!

Homemade Peppermint Patties {Paleo}
- Prep Time: 20
- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 6 servings 1x
- Category: Dessert
- Method: No Cook
- Cuisine: American
- Diet: Gluten Free
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup coconut butter, melted (See notes)
- 1 tsp honey (sub maple syrup)
- 1 tsp peppermint extract
- 1 cup dairy-free chocolate, melted
Instructions
- Using a small bowl, combine the coconut butter, honey and peppermint extract. Spoon about 1 tbsp worth of the coconut butter mixture into a silicone mold (I use this). Gently tap the mold on the table a few times and remove any air bubbles, and to even out the coconut butter. Transfer to the fridge and allow to set for about an hour or until solid.
- Prepare a bowl with the melted chocolate and a large plate lined with parchment paper.
- Carefully remove the coconut butter disks from the mold. Using a fork, dip a peppermint disk into the chocolate and rotate to fully coat. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off and set the peppermint candy onto the plate. Repeat with all of the peppermint disks.
- Set the plate in the fridge for at least an hour or until totally set. Serve chilled!
Notes
The best method to melt coconut butter and the dairy free chocolate is a double boiler.
To make AIP, use carob chocolate like this instead of chocolate.
