This matcha green smoothie is a nourishing and yummy pick me up that’s made with fresh fruit, coconut milk, and matcha powder. It’s paleo, dairy-free, and AIP.
What is Matcha?
Matcha is by far my favorite tea! Matcha is a green tea powder that’s typically made into hot tea with just water, or into lattes. It’s an antioxidant-rich tea that has a rich flavor, a beautiful green color, and gives a bit of a caffeine boost without the crash that you would get from coffee.
Not only is matcha great in lattes, but it actually makes a tasty smoothie as well! The rich flavor pairs well with a fruit smoothie, and you can’t beat that green color to boost an already green smoothie!
Why I love this matcha smoothie
It’s packed with healthy greens
Any way that I can sneak in more greens is always welcome!
It’s made with avocado and coconut milk
Most smoothies use milk and yogurt to make them creamy, but this dairy-free smoothie uses coconut milk (or almond milk) and avocado!
It’s made with matcha powder
The star ingredient to give it color, flavor, and hint of caffeine to get you going.
How to make this matcha green smoothie
- Using a high-speed blender, blend the milk with the matcha powder for 5-10 seconds or until fully combined.
- Add in the spinach and blend for another 10 seconds or until the mixture is fully liquid and no large bits of spinach are visible.
- Add the remainder of the ingredients (reserving the optional kiwi) and blend until smooth. Add more liquid if a thinner smoothie is desired. Serve chilled.
What’s the best matcha powder?
There are a lot of matcha brands out there, and not all are created equal when it comes to quality and flavor. My favorite option if I’m just making a hot or iced tea is Picque tea matcha crystals. They’re not cheap, but I use it sparingly and it is incredibly tasty! However, it’s not ideal for this smoothie as it’s better brewed. I prefer the brand ippodo matcha for recipes like this! But of course, you can simply use whichever matcha powder is your favorite if you already have a brand you love.
The Ingredients
Spinach
You can also use something like kale if you prefer.
Coconut milk
You can also use almond milk.
Frozen mango
The mango gives a great flavor and keeps the color more neutral than something like berries would.
Matcha powder
Avocado
This adds healthy fat and makes the smoothie creamy
Collagen
This adds a protein boost to the smoothie. I like the brand vital proteins, but use what you have on hand.
Kiwi
This is optional, but if you want a pretty green smoothie, this really adds something special.

I want to make this drink, but I’m allergic to mango. What can I substitute it with?
Delicious and healthy tasting. It’s still quite creamy without the avocado
