These pasta chips are the most delicious and unique crunchy snack! Easily make them in the air fryer or oven, and modify them to be gluten-free and vegan.

What are Pasta Chips?

Pasta chips are the trendy and super delicious snack that you can make with just a box of pasta! They’re made with boiled pasta that’s then seasoned and cooked in the air fryer or oven to make them crunchy like a chip. Served with a dip, they’re the most delicious little homemade chip!

These are super popular on TikTok (watch my video on it here!) but have been a thing far before their newfound TikTok fame.

How are pasta chips different than uncooked pasta?

The million-dollar question “why don’t you just eat it out the box?” Please don’t eat pasta out of the box! This is definitely different. Uncooked pasta is inedible, whereas pasta chips are basically twice-cooked pasta. They’re boiled and then crisped up to make them crunchy but still fully cooked!

The Ingredients for making Pasta Chips

  • Pasta. I use gluten-free farfalle, but you can use any pasta of your choice! You can also use Jovial cassava pasta to make it AIP compliant!
  • Olive oil.
  • Italian seasoning. You can definitely season pasta chips any way you desire, but Italian seasoning is the classic choice!
  • Parmesan cheese or nutritional yeast. I use nutritional yeast to make them dairy-free!

How to make Pasta Chips in the Oven

  • Cook the pasta al dente.
  • Toss in olive oil and seasonings.

  • Arrange on the baking sheet. Lay the pasta flat on the baking sheet, making sure that the pasta doesn’t overlap.

  • Bake. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until crisp. Serve with a marinara sauce for dipping.

How to make Pasta Chips in the Air Fryer

  • Cook the pasta al dente.
  • Toss in olive oil and seasonings.
  • Air Fry. Add the pasta to the air fryer (in a single layer if possible) and cook at 400 F for 10 minutes, shaking halfway through. Cook time may be up to 12-13 minutes depending on the size of your air fryer.

Tips & Tricks for Pasta Chips

  • Don’t let the pasta overlap. This prevents the pasta from cooking unevenly. If your air fryer is smaller and you can’t cook the pasta in a single layer, you just need extra time!
  • Keep an eye on the cook time. Depending on what kind of pasta you use or the size of your air fryer, you may need more or less cook time.

Variations on Pasta Chips

  • Use different varieties of pasta. You can also make pasta chips with chickpea pasta or cassava pasta.
  • Use different pasta shapes. Personally, I think that farfalle is the perfect shape for pasta chips, you can also use fusilli, ziti, penne, or whatever you have on hand!
  • Buffalo ranch pasta chips. Use buffalo sauce and ranch seasoning!
  • Pesto pasta chips. Add pesto sauce instead of oil and other seasonings.
  • BBQ pasta chips. Add BBQ seasoning and dip in BBQ sauce!
  • Sweet pasta chips. This sounds a bit out there, but I’ve seen pasta chips done with sweetener ingredients like coconut sugar, cinnamon, and even cocoa powder!

What dip should you serve with pasta chips?

  • Marinara sauce. Or I use nomato sauce!
  • Pesto.
  • A cheese dip. I’ve seen people serving pasta chips with dips like whipped feta dip! This is an awesome choice if you tolerate dairy.
