Purple mashed sweet potatoes are the perfect side dish for this holiday season! They are simple to make, and result in a beautiful and delicious side dish. They are a great compliment to any holiday meal you may be planning.

Using simple, wholesome ingredients, these purple mashed sweet potatoes have a hint of sweetness from the sweet potatoes complemented with coconut milk, ghee, and cinnamon. It’s paleo-friendly, gluten-free, and can be made AIP, so it is perfect for any guest’s dietary needs!

The Ingredients for the Purple Mashed Sweet Potatoes

  • Purple Sweet Potatoes. The star of the dish! The skin is also fairly purple so they’re easy to spot in the store.
  • Coconut Milk. You can also use other dairy-free milk alternatives if you prefer.
  • Ghee. You can  sub coconut oil for AIP.
  • Salt and Cinnamon.

How to make Purple Mashed Sweet Potatoes

  • Boil the sweet potatoes. Using a large pot, fill with water 3/4ths of the way and add the sweet potatoes. Bring to a boil and allow to boil for 15 minutes or until fork-tender. Strain the water.
  • Add the sweet potato to a large bowl and add the coconut milk, ghee, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Mash. Use a potato masher (or a similar tool) to mash and fully combine. Add more coconut milk if creamier mashed potatoes are desired.
  • Serve warm as a side dish!
