These air fryer chocolate chip cookies are the perfect little small-batch treat! This recipe is gluten-free and made with almond flour for perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Living in Dallas, TX, in the summer, the last thing I want to do is turn on my oven. So whenever I want cookies, I either suffer through heating up the whole kitchen or just skip it entirely. But there’s another way! You can easily make a small batch of cookies in the air fryer for a quick option that won’t heat up your kitchen, and will result in less clean up overall.
Why you’ll love these air fryer cookies
- They’re made in smaller batches. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you’ll only make 4-5 cookies at a time, which is great if you just want a small batch of fresh cookies. The recipe does make extra dough for you to freeze for whenever you want more fresh, gooey cookies!
- They don’t heat up your kitchen. The best part of air fryers (other than less clean up and faster cook time) is they don’t heat up your whole kitchen like a full size oven does. The smaller size generates less heat, making it perfect for summer or smaller kitchens that don’t cool down well.
- They’re made without brown sugar. This recipe uses coconut sugar instead!
The Ingredients for Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Almond Flour, Arrowroot Starch, and Coconut Flour. This is the grain-free flour blend that I found works best for this recipe. You can swap the arrowroot for tapioca starch.
- Ghee. I like using ghee for this recipe because it gives that buttery flavor without the lactose! You can likely use coconut oil, though I haven’t test it in this recipe.
- Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips. These are my favorite dairy-free chocolate chips to use.
- Coconut Sugar and Maple Syrup. This combination of sweeteners is the perfect sweet without being overly sweet, while being refined sugar free.
- Egg. You can also sub a flax egg!
- Baking Soda and Avocado Oil Spray.
- Flakey Salt. Perfect for topping!
The tools for Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies
- An air fryer. Cosori sent me their Turbo Blaze air fryer a while back and I love it!
- Parchment liners. Parchment liners are very helpful for this recipe.
How to make Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Step One. Combine the wet ingredients.
- Step Two. Combine the dry ingredients.
- Step Three. Stir wet and dry ingredients together and fold in chocolate chips.
- Step Four. Allow dough to set in fridge.
- Step Five. Add the cookie dough into the air fry and bake.
- Step Six. Remove the cookies and enjoy!
Tips & Tricks
- Don’t skip out on chilling the dough. This keeps the cookies from spreading too much and baking into each other in the air fryer.
- Freeze the extra dough. The full batch of dough will make a dozen cookies, so freeze the rest if you want to make it a small batch.
Can you bake frozen cookies in the air fryer?
You likely can adapt this recipe from frozen by adding some extra time, though I highly recommend letting the dough defrost in the fridge overnight if possible.
Do you need parchment paper for Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies?
I highly recommend using a parchment liner! Not only does it make for easier clean up, but it prevents sticking.
You’ll want to make sure all 4 corners (or edges if your air fryer is round) are weighed down by cookies so the parchment doesn’t touch the heating element.

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup ghee, softened but not melted
- 1/2 cup coconut sugar
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg (sub a flax egg for vegan)
- 2 cup almond flour
- 1 tbsp arrowroot starch
- 1 tbsp coconut flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (I use this brand)
- Avocado oil spray
- Flakey salt
Instructions
- Combine the ghee, coconut sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and egg in a large bowl and whisk well to combine.
- In a separate bowl, combine the almond flour, arrowroot starch, coconut flour and baking soda. Whisk well.
- Combine the dry and wet ingredients and stir well with a rubber spatula to combine. Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Transfer the cookie dough to the fridge and allow to set for 20-30 minutes.
- Preheat the air fryer to 325 F. Remove the basket and carefully add a parchment liner (the basket will be hot). Spray the parchment with avocado oil.
- Scoop 4-5 cookies into the air fryer, ensuring that the parchment paper is weight down. Press the cookies down gently to lightly flatten them. Add some extra chocolate chips on top if desired. Either freeze the remainder of the cookie dough for later use, or repeat the process with the rest of the dough.
- Return the basket to the air fryer and air fry at 325 for 8-10 minutes or until the cookies are crisp on the outside and baked through.
- Remove the air fryer basket and allow it to sit for a minute or so. Carefully use a spatula to remove the cookies and transfer to a cooling rack. Top with flakey salt and allow to cool before serving!

These are so good and they don’t spike my blood sugar! I froze the rest and dying to find out how to cook them without defrosting or pulling out the air fryer. Any tips?
You should be able to cook the dough in the oven, you may have to play with the cook time though!
