Why you’ll love these air fryer burgers

Burger bowls are one of my favorite high-protein meals! I love making them for a quick dinner, or meal prepping them for the week. The only problem? It’s messy to make inside! They splatter all over the stove top, and I always find myself scrubbing the pan like crazy. The solution, the air fryer!

Yes, you can make the juiciest burgers of your life in the air fryer. Simply grab your air fryer, a pound of ground beef, and carve out about 15 minutes for the best dinner you’ve had in a while. Serve them with some crispy baked white sweet potato fries, and top with pickled onions! Here’s why you’ll love it…

Headshot of Michelle Hoover, a brunette woman with pigtails in a pink sweater.
  • They’re made in less than 20 minutes! All you need to do is season and form the meat into burgers and cook them in less than 10 minutes in the air fryer!
  • It’s easy to clean up. You don’t have to worry about prepping and cleaning a grill, or getting your stove top dirty. The air fryer is extremely easy to clean.
  • It’s a low-heat option for summer days. The air fryer generates less heat than an oven or stove, which is amazing for the hot weather we get in Dallas, TX!

Recipe Ingredients

Air fryer burger ingredients in bowls.
  • Ground Beef. I prefer to use 90/10 ground beef for this recipe.
  • Salt, Pepper, Garlic and Onion Powder. You can use any seasoning you like, but this is my favorite!
  • Coconut Aminos. This is used as a gluten-free swap for worcestershire sauce to add extra flavor and moisture to the burgers. It also helps the outside caramelize and crisp up more!

Recipe Tools

  • An air fryer. Cosori sent me their Turbo Blaze air fryer a while back and I love it!
  • Parchment liners. Parchment liners are very helpful for this recipe.

Michelle’s Tips & Tricks

  • Use a parchment liner for faster cleanup. Air fryers are already easy to clean, but using a parchment liner makes it even easier!
  • Don’t skip the flip! Most air fryers only have a heating element on top and not the bottom, so you’ll want to flip the burgers to get them crispy on both sides.

What kind of beef should you use for air fryer burgers?

I prefer to use 90/10 ground beef for these burgers so they’re still fairly juicy, but it’s not too fatty tasting. 85/15 would also be a great choice!

How do you make air fryer cheeseburgers?

If you want to make these burgers into cheeseburgers, wait until the burgers are done cooking and add the cheese. Return the basket to the air fryer, but don’t turn your air fryer on! Leave it for just a minute, and allow the residual heat to perfectly melt the cheese.

How do you cook air fryer burgers from frozen?

I prefer to cook these with defrosted meat, but you’ll need to add at least an extra 6-8 minutes to the cook time if you’re cooking them from frozen. I highly recommend checking for doneness with a meat thermometer to ensure they’re cooked all the way through.

Can you make turkey burgers in the air fryer?

Yes! You’ll use the same general method, but cook the burgers to 165 F.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 90/10 ground beef
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp coconut aminos

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400 F.
  • While the air fryer preheats, add the ground beef to a bowl and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and coconut aminos. Gently mix to combine.
  • Form the meat into 4 even burger patties and set aside.
  • Remove the air fryer basket and carefully add a parchment liner. Add the four burgers to each corner of the air fryer to weigh down the liner.
  • Replace the basket in the air fryer and air fry at 400 F for 9 minutes, flipping the burgers about halfway through. The burgers should be cooked to about medium (145F), but add extra cook time as desired.
  • Remove the air fryer basket and allow the burgers to rest for a few minutes before serving in burger bowls, or on buns of your choice!
